South Central Human Service Center - Jamestown, ND - Residential Direct Care Associate III- Adult Shift: Overnight Be part of the solution to the behavioral health crisis. As a team member for ND Department of Health & Human Services, you will ensure the most vulnerable have access to a high-quality healthcare system in which prevention works, treatment is effective, and people recover.As a Direct Care Associate III working with adults in a residential setting, you will provide positive mentoring and guidance to individuals impacted by behavioral health disorders. You will teach daily living activities, including household tasks, hygiene task, effective communication, and socialization with the goal of helping those you serve increase their independence. An important part of this position is assisting the individuals articulate their goals and what is important for them. You will teach self-advocacy and self-help strategies to assist them in reaching their goals. You will thrive in this position if you have a passion for teaching individuals life skills and how to overcome barriers that may be present in their lives. The individual will work as a team member in an infirmary/clinic setting and within the Medical and Psychiatric Service Program. The position requires a holistic approach to health care service with emphasis on health maintenance through patient education and positive self-initiative. Specific duties include but are not limited to provision of health care nursing to the resident population; dispensing medication; emergency nursing care; participation in behavioral management procedures and infection control; thorough documentation of patient care and medical records; and individual, group and wellness education.

Minimum Qualifications

RN must be licensed as a Registered Nurse by the ND Board of Nursing. Requires interpersonal skills and communication skills necessary to perform job duties and must have ability to work with an inmate population on a daily basis. Strong clinical skills required. Psychiatric, medical surgical, and critical care background preferred, but not necessary. Individual must be flexible and innovative in carrying out assigned responsibilities. Must successfully complete standard background and criminal record check and drug screening.LPN requires current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse by the North Dakota Board of Nursing or licensure in another state and meet the eligibility requirements for licensure in North Dakota. North Dakota licensure is a condition of employment, and the employing agency will verify and document licensure upon appointment.

As a Disability Advocate you must have a passion for ensuring equality and inclusion of people with disabilities. You will provide information, assistance, and advocacy on disability-related, legal rights issues to people with disabilities; you will investigate alleged abuse and neglect; and provide training and outreach to people with disabilities, parents, guardians, service providers, and other professionals on disability rights issues. Occasional travel is required, including some overnight stays.

Duties and Tasks

Protective and Advocacy servicesReceives referrals regarding alleged rights violations of individuals with disabilities. Determines eligibility based on federal program, P&A eligibility criteria, and priorities.Works with the client to fulfill unmet disability-related needs and rights violations. Receives reports of suspected abuse, neglect, and exploitation (ANE) of individuals with disabilities.Investigates, collects, and reviews information to determine probable cause within timelines; completes required documentation and reports per P&A procedures and protocol.Training and outreachCollaborates with other P&A staff to develop training protocols in areas that include ANE, investigations, disability-related law and processes, advocacy, and other rights areas specific to individuals with disabilities.Collaborates with other P&A staff to develop and present trainings on disability-related topics to people with disabilities, professionals, parents, guardians, and others.Systems advocacyCollaborates with individuals with disabilities and advocacy organizations to develop strategies and advocate for positive systemic changes.Represents P&A on meetings, committees, workgroups, and task forces as requested, to address issues of concern to P&A.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in special education, sociology, or social work and three years of experience working with people with disabilities; ORBachelor's degree in any field, and four years of experience working with people with disabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

Work experience that involved advocating for people with a variety of disabilities including developmental disabilities, mental illness, physical disabilities and brain injury, to include co-occurring disabilities.Excellent understanding and knowledge of disability-related service delivery systems in ND.Work experience that required research, analysis, interpretation, and/or application of rules, regulations, statute, or complex policies. Work experience that required investigative type of duties.Work experience making presentations to a group.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Competent in using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet.
