Dealer Information

The following itemizes which Dealer Licenses can sell which types of vehicles while qualifying for the dealer resale tax exemption. Note: Please allow 4-6 weeks for an inspection to be completed before the issuance of dealer license.

Requirements to apply for a North Dakota title with an out-of-state title or MCO (Manufacturers Certificate of Origin).
  1. An application for certificate of title must be made by the owner using their legal name evidenced by a valid state-issued driver’s license, non-driver identification card, or any other document confirming the true identity of the owner.

    Non-residents and military personnel must provide a paper copy of their current driver’s license card or nondriver identification card with their certificate of title application. 

    A business, trust, partnership, or corporation must provide a paper copy document confirming the legal name.
     
  2. We will need the original out-of-state title completed by the seller and the buyer. If it is a new vehicle, we will need the MCO completed by the seller and the buyer.
     
  3. If purchased from a dealership we will need a copy of the Dealer Bill of Sale which includes the seller and buyer information, purchase price, date of sale, and vehicle information (make, model, & VIN).
     
  4. If the vehicle is 2011 or newer, the odometer information must be completed within the reassignment on the title or the Odometer Disclosure for Retail Sale on the MCO, with the seller's and buyer's signatures.
     
  5. If the vehicle is less than nine (9) years old SFN 18609 Damage Disclosure Statement must be completed by the seller.
     
  6. SFN 2872 Application for Certificate of Title and Registration of a Vehicle must be completed in full and signed by the buyer.
     
  7. Tax is due on 5% of the purchase price.
     
  8. Certificate of title fee - $5.00
     
  9. Abandoned Vehicle Disposal fee - $1.50
