Position: Chemistry Intern / Co-op / Summer EmploymentPosition #s: 303-31002; 303-31003; & 303-31004Job ID #: 3029401Department: Chemistry Location: Bismarck, NDSalary Range: $17.00 - $22.00 / hourStatus: Temporary; Full-TimeCloses: 11:59pm on February 28, 2025 The North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality, Division of Chemistry has internship opportunities for students or summer employment opportunities for recent graduates interested in gaining experience in environmental sciences. Employment with the Department of Environmental Quality allows individuals to gain and apply degree-related knowledge and work experience. At the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), we stand by our mission to conserve and protect the quality of North Dakota's air, land, and water resources following science and the law. We are looking for a candidate who identifies with this mission and has a passion for serving the citizens in our great state as a Chemistry Intern / Co-op. : The Chemistry Laboratory provides analytical chemistry data for environmental protection, public health, agricultural and petroleum regulatory programs in the state. As our Chemistry Intern, you will assist with the preparation of water, soil/sediment, and vegetation samples using techniques such as liquid/liquid extractions, liquid/solid extractions, solid phase extractions and automated techniques; you may assist in preparation of animal feed and fertilizer samples using mechanical means; and you may assist in preparing sampling kits for a variety of department projects. Interns will be introduced to modern analytical instrumental techniques such as atomic spectroscopy, colorimetry, and gas, liquid, and ion chromatography. Interns will also help with maintaining a safe and clean laboratory. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. DEQ will not provide sponsorships.Individuals must be enrolled in a college or university or have a bachelor's degree and possess a desire for a career in chemistry or in the environmental sciences with coursework in chemistry, biology, biochemistry or other related physical or natural science. Individuals must also be able to stand on their feet for extended periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs.These positions are based in Bismarck, ND and require computer and data management capabilities.
