BISMARCK, N.D. – As the North Dakota Department of Transportation prepares for the next phase of construction on the new Exit 161 interchange, a handful of lane closures are planned for late July and early August.
Beginning Wednesday, July 31, Interstate 94 will be reduced to one lane in each direction (eastbound and westbound) at Exit 161. The lane closures will be approximately one mile in length. Access will be maintained to all on and off-ramps.
Motorists should prepare for reduced speeds and minimal delays on the interstate during these lane closures.
The northbound lanes will be reduced to one lane on Bismarck Expressway/Centennial Road over I-94. The eastbound I-94 on-ramp and westbound I-94 off-ramp will be reduced in width. Reduced lanes and widths are expected to remain until the end of the week.
Crews will be paving temporary ramps at the interchange, which will be opened to the public in 2025, and installing temporary jersey barriers. Heavy equipment will be brought in to start work constructing a pier for the new interchange bridge.
Updates on the reconstruction of the Exit 161 interchange can be found at the project’s dedicated webpage, dot.nd.gov/exit161.
