Representatives from Vision Zero, the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Sioux County Sheriff’s Office and school administrators welcomed Standing Rock Community School as the latest Vision Zero School at an assembly today.
Student leaders picked impaired driving as their safety emphasis and are featured in a traffic safety banner and public service announcements (PSAs). Students unveiled the banner and PSAs at an assembly with the Sioux County Sheriff and school administrators. The banner reads, “Warriors Want You to Drive Sober!”
“Impaired driving has personally affected our students. By becoming a Vision Zero School they are seeking to make a change in driving behavior in our community,” explains Standing Rock Principal Mike Busch. “One student leader has shared her father was killed by an impaired driver when she was young and doesn’t want others to experience the loss she has.”
Standing Rock joins Carrington as the most recent Vision Zero Schools. Other schools include Flasher, Oakes, Des-Lacs Burlington, Wing, Cando, LaMoure, Nedrose and Killdeer.
Schools interested in participating in Vision Zero Schools should contact the NDDOT Safety Public Information Program Manager at 701-328-2598.
