About The Project
The US Highway 52 passing lane projects include a 221-mile roadway corridor extending from the ND/Canadian border at Portal traveling southeast to Carrington. The passing lanes are approximately two miles in length and spaced approximately every ten miles in each direction. By allowing traffic to safely pass slower moving traffic at critical points along this corridor, this will enhance safety and reduce delays for both industry and the traveling public.
Five roadway improvement projects were programmed for the construction of forty passing lanes and turn lanes at nine intersections. Construction began in 2022 continued seasonally through 2024 completing four of the five projects. One project near Portal has not been bid or constructed due to lack of available funding. The passing lane projects listed below extend from the northwest to southeast.
