Question 2

Reference plan section 170 sheet 3. The FRP pile jacket repair systems require an additional 4"-6" pile circumference for an effective repair area to accommodate the added reinforcing and epoxy/grout. This system is not conducive for pile repairs with an adjacent timber backwall. We request an alternate method of pile repair.

DOT Response

In lieu of the FRP pile jacket system, a new pile may be driven adjacent to the deteriorated pile, or the damaged portion of the pile section can be removed and replaced with new timber pile section. Splice the connection in a manner that resists the horizontal forces of the abutment. After replacement, the pile cap must fully bear on the new pile section. An addendum will be issued today.

Question 1

Can you identify the number of bridge sites that have both perpendicular and longitudinal deck plank?

DOT Response

Two bridges, 34-121-04.0 (Site 1) and 34-127-05.0 (Site 2), have longitudinal timber running planks. The remainder of the bridges are anticipated to only have transverse planks with a single timber curb on each end.
