Please use our Calculator to see the value of our total rewards package. : As a Chemist in our Chemistry Division, you will be part of a team that provides analytical chemistry data for environmental protection, public health, agricultural and petroleum regulatory programs in the state.As our Chemist, you will be determining Diesel Range Organics in aqueous and solid matrices, Volatile Organic Compounds in water by purge and trap analysis, and organic compounds in water by liquid-solid extraction and mass spectrometry detection. You will perform instrument calibration and maintenance and enter data and verification to ensure quality assurance and quality control measures are met. You'll respond to inquiries from agency team members about environmental data and testing. You'll respond to inquiries from agency team members about environmental data and testing.You will be working with hazardous chemicals that include strong acids and bases, chemical reagents, petroleum related products and other synthetic compounds. At times the samples themselves may be considered hazardous. You are required to follow established QA/QC policies, general laboratory protocols and standard operating procedures including adherence to safety policies and good laboratory practices. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. DEQ will not provide sponsorships.DEQ is attempting to fill this position at the Chemist II level but reserves the right to underfill the position as a Chemist I.To be considered for a Chemist II, you must have a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or closely related field and two years of related experience. To be considered for a Chemist I, you must have a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or closely related field. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in an environmental lab and in the use and interpretation of environmental testing instruments such as ICP, ICP-MS, GC, GC-MS, HPLC, HPLC-MSMS, IC, IC-MSMS, TOC, Purge & Trap, UV, FIA, Discrete Analyzers, and FIA and specific experience with Perkin Elmer, Agilent, Dionex, Metrohm, Teledyne Tekmar, Lachat/Hach, and Thermo Fisher Scientific instruments is helpful but not necessary as we are willing to train the selected candidate.
