The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) in working
with the ND Highway Patrol have decided to reduce the speed limit on US Highway
83 from 70 mph to 55 mph from the south edge of Ruthville to the Minot Air
Force Base, approximately two miles from mile marker 209.8 to 211.8. The reduced speed limit will take effect on Tuesday,
April 10. The speed
limit reduction is being implemented to enhance safety in the area.
The NDDOT will
continue to evaluate and review the area for other potential safety
enhancements as well as work with community members on additional efforts which
include traffic safety education. Safety on our roadways is very important to us
and is a combined effort of engineering, enforcement, education, and emergency
services. The state’s new traffic safety initiative called “Vision
Zero” has a primary goal to continually work toward zero motor vehicle
fatalities and serious injuries on North Dakota roads.
