The ND Highway 20 Underpass Project in Devils Lake has completed the temporary Shoofly Bridge. The BNSF rails have been shifted onto the Temporary Bridge and are now up and running. The next phase of construction will be to begin removing the old bridge and then start construction on the new bridge. In order to remove the existing bridge Hwy 20 will be closed from Hwy 19 north to 6th St. NE. Closure will start Monday August 21st at 6:00 AM and be closed until Friday August 25th. Motorists should use detour route on 5th Avenue and 6th Street. Pedestrian traffic will be maintained during the removal process, but will change from east side to west side depending on construction activities. Signs will be in place directing pedestrians to the safe walkway.
Traffic and Pedestrian restrictions will consist of:
- ND Highway 20 will be closed from ND Highway 19 to 6th Street NE while the existing bridge is removed. Motorists should use detour route on 5th Avenue and 6th Street.
- Pedestrian traffic will be maintained. Pedestrians will be able to use east or west paths depending on the removal process. Pedestrian are asked to pay attention to the changing conditions and follow the signage.
The Devils Lake Underpass Project has many phases that will require numerous changes to traffic and pedestrian flow patterns. Motorists should reduce speeds, follow signs and know that traffic control will frequently change throughout the duration of the project.
