The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) and the North Dakota Highway Patrol have issued a Travel Alert across western and central North Dakota due to high winds. A Travel Alert means conditions are such that motorists can still travel, however high profile vehicles and long loads could be impacted by today’s high winds. Blowing and drifting snow may also occur due to the high winds.
During inclement weather, high-profile, long-load type, and permitted overdimensional vehicles have restricted travel. North Dakota law restricts movement for these vehicles when wind or other conditions may cause the vehicle or attachment to swerve, whip, sway, or fail to follow in the path of the towing vehicle.
The National Weather Service has a High Wind Warning issued until 9 p.m. (CT).
All travelers are encouraged to monitor road conditions as weather conditions occur and use caution while traveling. For road information, call 511 from any type of phone or go to the website: http://www.dot.nd.gov/travel-info-v2/
